THE SECRET RECIPE
The pages of sleepwalking days
turn faster and faster—
how can we slow them down?
Our pair of white chrysanthemums
wither together in waning sunlight.
What are the ingredients
that make things last?
Garlic, coriander and cayenne—
perhaps a dash of tarragon
and basil will do the trick.
We never should have skipped
kindergarten, just because
we knew how to read.
We’ve always been too young
to learn the rules of the game.
We’ll never solve the unsolvable problem
of never getting to the end of time.
Let’s enjoy our mid-day naps before we fold ourselves
into the stony sleep disguised as fallen angels.
